Overview

The JASNA Essay Contest provides up to $1,000 for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students with an interest in Jane Austen's books. To apply, you'll need to write an essay debating if Jane Austen’s novels are still relevant and speak to us after 200 years. In the first part, you'll attack the idea, and in the second part, you should defend it. You will be expected to back up each position with quotations and examples from Austen’s works.

Can I use the same essay for multiple scholarship applications?

Yes! But make sure to read each scholarship application's essay guidelines and requirements, and personalize your essay to each scholarship you apply to. Using the same essay for multiple applications can be a time-saver, but changing just a sentence or two can make a difference!

How do I increase my chances of getting a scholarship?

How should I prioritize which scholarships to apply to?

To prioritize your scholarship applications, think about which scholarships you have the best chance of getting (the most specific ones, with more than one winner), the ones due the soonest, and the ones that are awarding the most money.
