Rebecca Lee Crumpler, MD Scholarships to African American female medical students who are permanent residents of Southern California or enrolled in Southern California medical schools. Applicants must be in good academic standing at a Southern California medical or osteopathic school or be a permanent resident of Southern California in good academic standing at any accredited medical or osteopathic school. To apply, you'll need to submit your financial aid award, an essay, and three letters of recommendation.

How do I know if I meet the requirements for a scholarship?

Each scholarship has a set of requirements: specific factors that determine whether or not you're eligible to apply. What is financial need and how do I know if I have it?

Financial need is determined by the information you enter into your FAFSA. It's the difference between how much it's going to cost you to go to college, your 'cost of attendance (COA)', minus how much of this cost can you / your family cover, your 'Expected Family Contribution (EFC)'. If your EFC is lower than your COA, you have financial need! If you're not sure about your EFC or COA, reach out to a Mos advisor for help!

How do I create a resume?

Start by making a list of all your professional experience. This includes any jobs, internships, or volunteer experiences you've had. You can also include impressive achievements like being a part of a club, or winning an award. A standard resume is no more than one page long. Can I use the same essay for multiple scholarship applications?

Yes! But make sure to read each scholarship application's essay guidelines and requirements, and personalize your essay to each scholarship you apply to. Using the same essay for multiple applications can be a time-saver, but changing just a sentence or two can make a difference!
